WWII: The Axis Wars
During World War II, Cologne is a Military Area Command Headquarters (Militärbereichshauptkommandoquartier) for the Military District (Wehrkreis) VI of Münster and home to the 211th Infantry Regiment and the 26th Artillery Regiment.
Despite the presence of the Nazi controlled military, the citizenry Cologne has seemed somewhat torn on the subject of the new leadership regime with the active number of supporters falling well below the national average. Because of the Military base, Cologne is often the target for cross-channel strikes from the R.A.F.
The local population feels the true strain of the war that much of the rest of Greater Germany is insulated from. Despite the damage and poverty gnawing at their city, the citizens of Cologne seem loath to leave their homes and businesses.
